01 Feb MP Fitz Jackson to meet with Bankers Association re banking fees
Kingston, January 28, 2017: Member of Parliament for South St. Catherine, Fitz Jackson will be meeting with the Jamaica Bankers Association to address concerns raised by bankers in relation to the Bill he initiated in Parliament to amend the Banking Services Act.
Since the Bill was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, some concerns have been raised about aspects of the Bill which relate to banking fees on depositors.
Mr. Jackson says “I will be meeting with the bankers to hear their concerns, but I remain committed to ensuring that the interests of the depositors are protected. The further consultation is to ensure that while the Bill protects the interest of depositors, no unintended effect on the banking sector occurs”
The meeting which will take place at the Parliament on Monday, January 30th is expected to have in attendance the President of the JBA along with the heads of the major banks in Jamaica.
