PATRIOTS SAY YOUNG PEOPLE PLACED ON CRITICAL DECISION-MAKING BODY IN PNP

KINGSTON, JAMAICA, September 25, 2017: The PNP Patriots is commending the People’s National Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for its commitment to grooming young people and facilitating them at all levels of decision making within the party. The over 300 member strong NEC is the Party’s highest decision making body outside of the Party’s annual Conference.

A major task of the NEC is to elect 11 members to serve on the Party’s Executive Committee which includes the officers and key leaders of the Party and is tasked with executing the Party’s programme. The Patriot’s President, Omar Newell, Vice President, Mario Mitchell and Noel Soley Jr (Patriots West), are among the young leaders elected to the Party’s Executive Committee.

According to Newell, “the PNP has always been open to young people and this latest result indicates that young people who are prepared to work hard and win the confidences of comrades at different levels of the party can gain access to affect decisions at the highest levels.” Newell further noted that the composition of the executive ensures that the interests of Jamaicans from every section of society will be represented on every issue brought before the body at its weekly meetings.

Newell congratulated all 11 elected to the Party’s Executive including former Member of Parliament, Damion Crawford and the Papine Division’s Councilor, Venesha Philips. While encouraging other young people to join the PNP, the Patriots President noted that “the NEC has demonstrated that the PNP provides an open space for young people who want to become involved in national development.”

Newell also commended Fitz Jackson on his ascension to the Chairmanship of the People’s National Party. “Fitz has served the Party with distinction over the years and has demonstrated an ability to bring people from different backgrounds and leanings together for the benefit of all. His current move to reduce the burden caused by high bank fees demonstrates his ability and willingness to take on tough battles. Fitz is exactly the Chairman the PNP needs today” noted Newell.
