People’s National Party President Welcomes Local Government Elections

The President of the People’s National Party (PNP), the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller; has welcomed the announcement of the Local Government Elections. Mrs. Simpson Miller says that she welcomes the announcement as it gives the people an opportunity to elect a government that will govern their affairs at the local level. Mrs. Simpson Miller says, “As for the PNP, we have always been with the people and for the people and so we will be out there campaigning and speaking to the people about our track record for Local Government.”

Mrs. Simpson Miller says, “The PNP has a proud and enviable track record where Local Government is concerned. We have consistently placed the people’s government on the agenda of development and this is why we entrenched Local Government into the Constitution of Jamaica so that no administration can arbitrarily dismantle them.”

The PNP currently controls the 13 Parish Councils and the Portmore Municipality. Mrs. Simpson Miller said: “Notwithstanding the tradition of the political party that wins the General Election, moves to win the Local Government, we are going out there to defend and retain all the Parish Councils.”

Mrs. Simpson Miller said: “I am calling upon the PNP Councillor Candidates, Campaign Managers, Cluster Managers, PD Captains, Outdoor Agents, Indoor Agents and Runners, to go out and tell the people about the work of the PNP and its history with Local Government. We have a strong message and we must tell the people because we are always with the people and for the people.”
