23 Jun PHILLIPS BIDS FAREWELL TO US AMBASSADOR MORENO
Kingston, Jamaica June 20, 2017: Hailing outgoing United Stated Ambassador to Jamaica for his outstanding contribution to the nation’s development, Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips today bade Luis Moreno farewell in a meeting at his West King’s House Road office.
Phillips said Ambassador Moreno has been more than supportive of Jamaica since taking up duties here in 2014, has been vocal on a number of important issues affecting the island and has taken major steps to assist the nation to realize some of its economic and national security goals.
“Ambassador Moreno has been a very good friend of Jamaica he has been particularly helpful to the country as a whole in a variety of areas including the advancement of the economic programme during the period when I was Minister of Finance.” Phillips said.
The Opposition Leader pointed out that Moreno facilitated discussions with the US Treasury Department, the State Department, National Security Council and other agencies of the United States.
Ambassador Moreno has also been active in the area of national security, providing training for members of the police force as well as equipment such as lethal kits and coast guards vessels for the JDF, the police and correctional officers.
Phillips expressed the hope that Moreno’s successor will continue strong and supportive bond of friendship that was the hallmark of the departing Ambassador’s tenure.
