“Remain with the People”

“Remain with the People”

PNP President Portia Simpson Miller has challenged Mayors, sitting Party Councillors and Local Government Candidates to remain with the people, in her endorsement of her Peoples National Party theme for the Local Government Campaign – “With the People…For the People.”

Mrs Simpson Miller said, “This is a qualitative extension of People Power. It goes deeper and wider, meaning that not only are we advocating power to the people which is essentially what people power is about, but we are committing ourselves to be with the people.” She further said, “This obliges us to understand the people, to listen to the people even when we do not agree, learn from the people and to give leadership to the people.”

The former Prime Minister who is also a former local government minister, was addressing her Party’s Local Government National Campaign Committee, at the Alhambra Inn Hotel earlier this week, as the PNP puts in place its machinery for the constitutionally due 2016 Local Government elections. The PNP leader said, “I want to commend the work done so far and also those who worked diligently in coming up with arguable a most essential theme for the Local Government Campaign, as this means engagement, humility, service and effective representation.”

Simpson Miller said, “As a Party which puts people first, we must always strive to serve the best interest of the widest cross section of the Jamaican people and so whatever we do as a party and as a team, the outcome of our work, our programmes, our policies, must always uncompromisingly be, for the people.”

Charging Candidates that we must give ‘life’ and real meaning to our theme, the Party President said, “Let us not just put it only on paper, in our adverts and songs, let us go forth and demonstrate that we are ‘With the People…For the People’,”
