15 Jun SIMPSON MILLER AND DR. DAVIES TO RESIGN ON JUNE 29, 2017
Kingston, Jamaica, June 13, 2017: Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Parliament, Phillip Paulwell today at the request of former Prime Minister and MP for South West St. Andrew the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller and Member of Parliament for South St. Andrew, Dr. Omar Davies, have announced that they will both submit letters of intent to resign to the Speaker of the House.
Mrs Simpson Miller and Dr. Omar Davies will officially resign on June 29, 2017 when their letters of resignation will be handed to the Speaker of the House. In accordance with our laws, such resignations once handed to the Speaker become immediately effective, hence today’s letters of intent and not resignations.
Paulwell, who is the Member of Parliament for Kingston East and Port Royal also said, “Today we are witnessing the beginning of a historical changing of the guard when two sitting members of adjoining constituencies shall simultaneously take their bow on June 29, 2017 and so we wish them good health and strength in their retirement years.”
“At a future date, the Parliament will pay tribute to both Members for their services to the people, the Parliament and Jamaica,” he said.
