Prime Minister of Barbados to Deliver Keynote Address at Michael Manley Centenary Lecture
Kingston, Jamaica. December 6, 2024: The Michael Manley Foundation is honoured to announce that the Prime Minister of Barbados, the Honourable Mia Amor Mottley, will deliver the keynote address at the Michael Manley Centenary Lecture on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. This momentous occasion commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Honourable Michael Manley, one of Jamaica’s most transformative leaders, whose legacy continues to shape the Caribbean’s pursuit of social justice and equity.
The lecture, set to take place at the Little Theatre in Kingston, Jamaica, will be an evening of profound reflection on Michael Manley’s vision and achievements. Prime Minister Mottley’s participation as keynote speaker underscores the enduring regional significance of Manley’s contributions to labour rights, education, and regional cooperation.
Highlighting the importance of the event, Senator Donna Scott Mottley, Chair of the Michael Manley Foundation, remarked: “Prime Minister Mottley’s address will not only honour Michael Manley’s legacy but also inspire the region to uphold the principles of social justice and unity that he championed. Her presence reflects the deep respect and continued relevance of his ideals across the Caribbean.”
The evening’s programme will feature contributions from notable figures, namely, Leader of the Opposition and President of the PNP. Mark Golding and former Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, culminating in Prime Minister Mottley’s keynote presentation. Her address will focus on the lessons from Michael Manley’s leadership and their applicability to the region’s current challenges.
