Statement from Senator Sophia Frazer-Binns on Earth Day 2025

Kingston, Jamaica. April 22, 2025: Today, as the world marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” we are reminded that the future of our environment depends not only on global action but also on the decisions we make and the actions we take, right here at home.

This year’s theme is a powerful call for us to transition urgently to renewable and clean energy by 2030. For Jamaica, this means not just the implementation of policies but the active and meaningful engagement of our people to make the change. Our people must be placed at the centre of this shift to a green economy, ensuring that the benefits of clean technology, energy efficiency, and climate resilience reach every corner of our island, from the coastlines of Portland to the hills of Manchester.

The PNP remains committed to advocating for stronger environmental governance, increased public participation, and sustainable development that is both just and inclusive.

As we mark Earth Day 2025, let us renew our commitment to renewable and clean energy, equitable distribution and a climate-resilient country for all Jamaicans.
