Ian Hayles Refutes JLP Claims, Highlights Neglect of Drain Cleaning in Western Westmoreland
Western Westmoreland, November 15, 2024: Ian Hayles, MP Candidate for Western Westmoreland, has forcefully rebutted recent statements by JLP representatives who dismissed his call for urgent drain cleaning in the constituency as “political mischief.” Hayles labelled these accusations as baseless deflections, shifting attention away from the JLP and the sitting Member of Parliament Moreland Wilson’s failure to address longstanding infrastructural neglect.
Speaking from Bathhouse, Hayles provided compelling evidence of blocked drains across several communities, including Bathhouse, Egypt Gardens, and McNeil Land. He pointed out that despite the JLP representatives’ claims that these drains have been cleaned, the reality on the ground tells a different story.
“The drains in Bathhouse are still significantly blocked, with only partial brushing done on one side of the road,” said Hayles. “In Egypt Gardens and McNeil Land, the situation is equally dire. These half-hearted efforts have left residents exposed to severe flooding risks.”
Hayles also criticised the track record of the sitting JLP representatives. “For eight years, the Councillor has represented the Sheffield Division, yet the people have seen no real improvements. Similarly, the Councillor for Little London Division has neglected Egypt Gardens, offering words instead of action,” he said.
In his video response, Hayles underscored his commitment to transparency by inviting residents to see the evidence for themselves. “The drains in Bathhouse, McNeil Land, and Egypt Gardens are still clogged. I urge the public to look at these areas and decide who is telling the truth and who is truly advocating for them.”
Hayles also welcomed and implored the media to visit Western Westmoreland to independently verify the state of the drains. “I encourage members of the media to come and see for themselves. Verify the evidence on the ground, speak to the residents, and witness the urgent need for proper cleaning and clearing of these drains. This is not about politics; it’s about addressing real issues affecting real people.”
Dismissing claims of political opportunism, Hayles clarified that his initial press release was a proactive effort to prevent potential disaster. “This is not about politics; it’s about protecting the lives and properties of the people of Western Westmoreland. We must act now—waiting until floodwaters rise is not an option.”
Hayles concluded with a rallying call to the people of Western Westmoreland: “Time Come. The time has come to elect representatives who are present, accountable, and committed to doing the work they were elected to do.”
