PNP Mourns the Passing of Reggae Icon Cocoa Tea

Kingston, Jamaica. March 11, 2025: The People’s National Party expresses profound sorrow at the passing of Colvin ‘Cocoa Tea’ Scott, a true giant of Jamaican music and culture. His departure marks an immense loss to the reggae fraternity, the creative industries, and the nation at large.

Dr. Deborah Hickling Gordon, PNP Spokesperson for Culture and Creative Industries, reflected on Cocoa Tea’s extraordinary impact, stating:  “Cocoa Tea was a cultural ambassador whose music carried the heartbeat of Jamaica to the world. His songs were more than melodies; they were messages of unity, resilience, and faith. His contribution to reggae and his unwavering commitment to positive, conscious music cement his legacy as one of Jamaica’s finest musical storytellers. Even in his health challenges, he remained an example of strength and passion. His voice and message will live on through his timeless music.”

Cocoa Tea’s classics, from “Sweet Sweet Jamaica” to “Israel’s King”, spoke to the struggles, triumphs, and spiritual depth of the Jamaican people. His music was a bridge between generations, carrying messages of love, righteousness, and national pride.

The PNP extends heartfelt condolences to his wife, Malvia, their children, and all who mourn this great loss. We stand in solidarity with the reggae community and the many fans worldwide who celebrate his life and work.
