Kingston, Jamaica. March 18, 2025: Opposition Spokesperson on Sports, Wavell Hinds, extends heartfelt congratulations to the Special Olympics Jamaica (SOJ) team for their outstanding performance at the 2025 World Winter Games in Turin, Italy.

Jamaica’s delegation secured an impressive seven medals: three gold, two silver, and two bronze, surpassing the country’s previous best of five medals at the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria.

Hinds lauded the athletes for their dedication, resilience, and exceptional achievements on the world stage.

“The success of our Special Olympics Jamaica team is a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and the unwavering support of their coaches, families, and the entire SOJ programme. These athletes continue to make us proud, proving that with determination and opportunity, there are no limits to what can be achieved,” Hinds said.

The Special Olympics movement provides year-round training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, fostering physical fitness, joy, and inclusion through sports.

Hinds reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for greater support and investment in Jamaica’s Special Olympics programme, ensuring that athletes with intellectual disabilities have the resources and opportunities to excel.

“The next PNP administration will prioritise inclusive sports development, ensuring that our athletes receive the necessary funding and infrastructure to thrive. Special Olympics Jamaica has once again demonstrated why investment in adaptive sports is so important,” he added.

The Opposition Spokesperson on Sports encourages Jamaicans to celebrate the achievements of the SOJ team and to continue supporting efforts to uplift and empower athletes of all abilities.
