PNP Demands Transparency on Water Quality Reports

Kingston, Jamaica. May 15, 2025: The People’s National Party (PNP) is calling on the Government of Jamaica, and specifically Minister Matthew Samuda, to immediately reverse the decision to withhold monthly water quality reports from municipal bodies such as the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).

The public has a right to know the quality of the water they consume daily, for drinking, cooking, bathing, and other uses. These reports, produced by the National Water Commission (NWC), are essential for ensuring transparency and accountability, especially when it comes to public health.

Both Opposition Leader Mark Golding and Opposition Spokesperson on Water Ian Hayles have raised serious concerns about the Government’s handling of this matter and the attempt to shut down independent oversight. They are urging the Government to restore full public access to the data and allow NWC personnel to carry out their duties without political interference.

Attached are audio and video files of Mr. Golding and Mr. Hayles outlining the PNP’s position.
