17 Mar Former Minister of Culture Lisa Hanna, MP shocked at the sudden death of Mr. Delroy Gordon
“This is devastating news. The country has lost a true patriot who was dedicated to high quality service to our people. He was a gentle giant who got the job done selflessly while commanding respect from everyone with whom he came in contact.”
Ms. Hanna said that through Mr. Gordon’s efforts, working with the previous board the Government saved millions of dollars while maintaining high standards in culture. “Most notably was a cost reduction in the staging of our 2015 Grand Gala by over $20 million because everything was produced and implemented by the JCDC staff. We were pleased because for the first time in over twenty years the JCDC financials were not in the ‘red’ ” while giving the country high quality. She said.
“Mr. Gordon worked with us and ensured that the staff of the JCDC planned and implemented our cultural events. We were able to give the country and visitors a memorable Jamaica 50 celebration and since then anchor July 31 to August 6 as an anticipated cultural calendar event for all. The implementation of the Jubilee Village at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre along with special features of bringing Coronation Market uptown on August 1, the Kiddies Village, The JCDC Cultural Passport that enabled children to visit our nation’s cultural sites and museums free of cost as well as ensuring High performance standards for patrons at every event were just a few features of his legacy.
” When I would call him and say Mr. Gordon we need to get our cultural training in our remand centers for girls and boys he never hesitated and we came up with our Arts For Life Programme at South Camp road to train wards in dance, drama and speech which helped so many of them. I will miss him, he was such a wonderful human being and asset to any administration”.
The Opposition and members of the previous board of Commissioners thank him profusely for adding value to the cultural landscape of Jamaica, and his years of service to our people. We mourn his passing and extend condolences to his family, friends and staff of the JCDC.
May his soul Rest In Peace.
