01 Oct MP Urges Port Royal Residents To Evacuate
Member of Parliament for East Kingston and Port Royal, Phillip Paulwell, has issued an urgent plea to constituents in Port Royal to move into shelters as Hurricane Matthew moves closer to Jamaica.
High waves and storm surges are expected from Hurricane Matthew.
Mr Paulwell says high tides have already started to affect the area by the light house where severe flooding occurred on Friday evening.
Several vehicles had to be towed from the flooded roads by heavy duty equipment coordinated by the Jamaica Defence Force.
Port Royal is a low-lying community that has been spared ravages of previous storms but the MP has cautioned residents not to take Hurricane Matthew lightly.
MP Paulwell has started a massive clean up of drains and gullies in the constituency to minimize and prevent flooding.
Funds from the constituency Development fund have been utilized to undertake this preparation exercise.
