10 Oct OPPOSITION CONCERNED ABOUT NUMBER OF BABIES DYING FROM SEPSIS
The Opposition is expressing concerns as to the recent developments at the nursery of Victoria Jubilee Hospital, regarding the growing number of dead babies.
In this regard, we the Opposition wishes to express our condolence to the parents who have lost their babies.
The Ministry of Health has stated that there were only seven deaths, but information reaching the opposition is suggesting that there are about twenty such deaths at Victoria Jubilee Hospital.
Former Health Minister Horace Dalley, said, “We are calling on the Minister of Health to give full disclosure on the situation at Victoria Jubilee Hospital re the deaths of these babies.” “In our opinion, too many things have been happening in the Health Sector that the Minister on the face of it seems not to be aware.”
Dalley is further asking the Minister to come clean and make a full disclosure of the reports of babies dying from bacterial infections at the Cornwall Regional Hospital and the University Hospital of the West Indies as well.
Spokesperson Dalley is further calling on the Minister to inform the nation as to the true number of babies born with microcephaly at Victoria Jubilee Hospital and the Spanish Town Hospital.
The Opposition wants the Minister to give answers to the nation on:
1. How many babies have died from sepsis across the nation’s hospitals
2. How many babies have been born with microcephaly and what programs have been put in place to address them.
“The Opposition is not asking these questions to politicize health, but the Government has a responsibility to inform the Country of these developments and the health care system of the country is in crisis and the Minister seems not to know,” Horace Dalley concluded.
