The People’s National Party (PNP) is calling upon all citizens to heed the warnings about the approaching Hurricane Matthew. Opposition Spokesperson with responsibility for Information and Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Julian Robinson, today made a special appeal to all citizens to heed the warnings. Mr. Robinson said: “Hurricane Matthew is a dangerous Category Four hurricane and has the potential of taking lives and destroying properties and I am therefore imploring all citizens to pay special attention to the warnings from the authorities.”
Mr. Robinson further stated: “I am specifically appealing to citizens in flood prone areas across the island, to take the necessary precautions and to evacuate if stated by the authorities. This includes residents living in Port Royal.”
Mr. Robinson is reminding citizens not to cross rivers, gullies or large bodies of water during the hurricane as these have the potential of taking lives.
Mr. Robinson is also repeating a call from the Leader of the Opposition and President of the PNP, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, for special attention to be given to vulnerable citizens. Mr. Robinson said: “We must ensure that special attention and care is given to senior citizens, children and persons with disabilities at this time. We must be our brothers and sisters keeper and these individuals must be protected.”
