08 Jun Phillips assures ‘FOOD FOR THE POOR’ of PNP support
Kingston, Jamaica, June 6, 2017: Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Peter Phillips is assuring charity agency Food for the Poor that the People’s National Party remains supportive of its work.
In a recent meeting with the agency’s chairman Mr. Andrew Mahfoodand vice chairman Mr. Christopher Bicknell at the Office of The Leader of the Opposition, Phillips commended the organization for its longstanding assistance to the poor and neediest persons in the society. In particular, he commended them for their more recent contribution to the special housing programme, a joint partnership entered into with the previous government which utilised resources from the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme. This initiative was started in August 2012, following devastation to the housing stock by heavy rains, and continued through the life of the administration.
Dr. Phillips expresses satisfaction that following a period of indecision, the current government had now decided to extend this programme. He also expressed hope that negotiations between the Government and Food for the Poor would soon start and be speedily concluded. He urged Food for the Poor to ensure that the standards of transparency and openness, that are typical of their administration of the current programme, continue.
