14 Aug PNP Salutes Former Cuban Leader Fidel Castro
The People’s National Party salutes Revolutionary Leader and Former Cuban President, Commandant Fidel Castro, on his 90th birthday, today Saturday 13th August, being celebrated by progressives and freedom loving people the world over.
In its message to the Cuban Communist Party, the PNP recognised the role of Fidel Castro Ruz in providing inspiring and enlightening leadership in the development of Cuba and to the quality of life for the Cuban people, in a society where health care for all and education up to university level are completely state funded in an almost violence free society.
The Party also expressed its thanks the Cuban Government under the leadership of the former President, for the hundreds of university scholarships provided to Jamaicans over three decades.
In remembering the Angolan liberation struggles, the People’s National Party also hailed Fidel Castro and the heroic Cuban people for their sacrifices in assisting the Angolan Independence War some 40 year ago, when Cuban soldiers fighting alongside the MPLA – the Movement for the Popular Liberation of Angola, defeated the forces of imperialism led by UNITA and FLNA, which were supported and backed by the military of the then South African Government. History has recalled that this was the first military defeat of South African troops in Africa.
The People’s National Party in saying ‘Happy Birthday Fidel’, salutes the courageous leadership of Fidel Castro, for his unflinching support for humanitarianism and Internationalism.
