05 Oct The Leader of the Opposition Expresses Gratitude to Citizens for their Humanitarian Support during the Preparation for Hurricane Matthew
The Leader of the Opposition, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, wishes to express deep relief that Jamaica was spared the wrath of Hurricane Matthew.
She is commending the tremendous humanitarian support given by citizens to each other during the preparation for the hurricane.
Mrs. Simpson Miller said that our beautiful country has once again been spared from damage and expenses that our fragile economy could not handle at this time.
Mrs. Simpson Miller further stated: “I am even more gratified at the tremendous humanitarian efforts of our citizens as they extended support to each other across the island.”
In her release on Friday September 30, 2016, Mrs. Simpson Miller called upon citizens to give support and protection to senior citizens, children and persons with disabilities. Mrs. Simpson Miller said: “I am very happy that citizens responded to my call and that all over the island persons were giving support to these vulnerable Jamaican brothers and sisters.”
Mrs. Simpson Miller said that she was extremely pleased that no one died as a result of conditions associated with Hurricane Matthew.
The Opposition Leader expressed profound gratitude to all the public servants and volunteers who put their lives at risk to prepare our island and its citizens for the effects of Hurricane Matthew. She said: “We owe a debt of gratitude to you for your tremendous efforts.” She is encouraging all citizens to return to work and continue to contribute to the nation’s development.
